Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids Canceled amid racist outcries
Responding to public outrage, Adidas has canceled the upcoming release of the JS roundhouse mids. The purple and grey kicks featured a plastic orange shackle attached to the heel.
After the shoes were reveled on the company’s Facebook page, a maelstrom of angry comments were left on the page. Some of them called the design of the show racist. Monday afternoon, Adidas canceled the shoes.
Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke on CNN on Tuesday morning, said the shoes were a “gross insult” and that Adidas only canceled the shoe in trying to stem a potential boycott.
Adidas said in a statement it apologized “if people are offended by the design” and it was withdrawing plans to release the shoes. The company went on to say, ” The design of the JS Roundhouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take in fashion and has nothing to do with slavery.”
