Young man killed for not giving up his kicks

[ 4 ] April 12, 2012 |

As a weekly listener to the Obsessive Sneaker Disorder show, I often hear Dee Wells and the rest of the crew say to “tell the people that you love, you love em” and that “leather and rubber” are not more important than people. This tragic story highlights both those tenets in a sobering manner.

Sergio Pinex was gunned down for refusing to give up his shoes

Sergio Pinnex,18, had recently moved to Indiana from Chicago to turn his life around was killed after refusing to give up his shoes to an armed robber.

Pinnex was returning from the store with a friend last Thursday when when two vehicles pulled up next to them and stopped. A man brandishing a gun got out and demanded money and the men’s footwear.

Pinex’s friend handed over his shoes and wallet; although they shot and killed Pinex, they took nothing from him.

Angela Pinex, Sergio’s mother had this to say on her son’s slaying: “He didn’t deserve this, he didn’t deserve this. There is no explanation, but all I know is whoever did it, please turn yourself in because my son did not deserve this.”

Gary, Indiana police are searching for a white Cadillac and a purple PT cruiser involved in the shooting.

This is truly sad! A young man that barely lived, and who knows what he could have done with his life.

I pray for Sergio Pinex’s family, and I hope they find and arrest the cats that killed him.

Now more than ever, we have to Walk GOOD, and put people first! LOVE.
