And then there were 2

I couldn’t be more excited about the match up in this year’s NBA Finals. After both winning their respective Conference Finals this week to the tune of 4-1, the Mavs and Heat are primed for what could be an epic battle for the Larry O’Brien trophy. Both teams have really peaked in this years playoffs and each have a superstar that is yearning for that ring. Dirk has played out of his mind so much so that he has drawn comparisons to Larry Legend and LeBron has shut all the haters up with his intensity and clutch performances. As much as it seems like the Heat have been the villains all year, it wasn’t that long ago the Mavs were known as the black sheep because of their outspoken owner Mark Cuban.

In a rematch of the 2006 NBA Finals, in which the Mavs went from a comfortable 2-0 lead to losing the series 4-2, Dirk folded like a deck chair and was labeled as a soft euro who didn’t have what it takes to finish the job. Dwayne Wade had his coming out party of sorts winning a championship along side a still viable Shaq and was the first to capture his ring from the heralded class of ’03. LeBron was still figuring out how to win as a solo act in Cleveland at the time and it would take all the stars lining up in 2010 for him to finally get a real shot at a title along with fellow ’03 draftee Chris Bosh. Dirk since hitting the ultimate fail out has reinvented himself and the Mavs have retooled the team to become very veteran heavy and with Jason Kidd at the PG position (who himself went to the Finals twice but came up short) the match ups all around should be one for the ages.
